Creative Exercises | Animation & StoryboardFor this project I was given a very loose guideline to "produce a training on the Uber app" and "create a storyboard for a training on UberPOOLs". In under 24 hours I created this piece in Adobe After Effects along with a storyboard for the second training. These are not official designs for Uber, but I've included it in my portfolio in order to showcase my experience with motion graphics. I wrote the script which is based off of the actual text in the Uber app and I recorded the audio as well.

Masterclass Video Course | Not By ChanceI worked with Tim and Roxanne Thayne of Not By Chanc to analyze stakeholders and audience, then design and develop a master class video course for their customers. The format of the course includes live instruction given face to face and individual guidance with Tim alone. In addition to designing the course, I also coordinated the shooting of the videos and edited the production. This required managing a crew of 5 individuals, coordinating set design and location scouting, as well as cutting together 3 tracks of audio, 5 separate video input feeds, and visual aids for a total of approximately 10 hours of instructional video content.

Instructional Video Series | BYU Faculty CenterThe BYU Faculty Center was changing rapidly when I began working as an instructional media designer in the department. A significant project I participated in was the redesign of the current website Faith and Learning Initiative in which I helped identify the key objectives, indicators and criteria for success, and user experience. Additionally I designed training materials and programs for newly hired university faculty and staff including the video to the right. While working at the faculty center I:

eLearning Course | Grace Centers of HopeAs a Designers for Learning volunteer, I assisted in the design of a service-learning project for the benefit of Grace Centers of Hope, a nonprofit outreach to homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families in Pontiac, MI. Clients in the Grace Centers of Hope. The scope of this project was to design instructional materials and learning activities to meet the parameters of the College and Career Readiness standards.
Our virutal team developed a variety of materials for college and career readiness including biology, math, language arts, and other open resources. My design scope included a division of the language arts curriculem, specifically paraphrasing and summarizing. The completed design can can be accessed through the Designers For Learning webiste >HERE< |

Literacy Game | Brigham Young UniversityThe client (BYU) asked our team to create an extension to their existing Hideout app, which exposed and reinforced basic literacy skills (such as phonological awareness, letter-sound association, and word blending) to young children in preschool and kindergarten. The problem with Hideout at the time was a lack of interactive review activities for the learners. This design extension needed to be an interactive and engaging assessment tool that learners could use to practice recognizing target sounds and words in both the classroom and the home. Our task was to develop a design, including a prototype that could be handed off to the development team to produce into the newest version of the app. The project was a success, ultimately winning the approval of the client.

TeachersClips: Online Open Resource ProjectTeacherClips has been a multi-year project of which I've presented at national conferences and pitched to investors. The project is dedicated to bringing together popular culture clips and content from all over the web that can be related to topics in the classroom.
One of the main goals of TeachersClips is to help teachers save time, foster critical media literacy skills, and illustrate relevance of classroom lessons. This project is in an early prototype phase and can be accessed below. >TeachersClips Prototype< |

Applying History: Online CourseApplying History is a fairly simple iteration of an open access history teaching module where students can earn badges, connect, create, and critically engage with a variety of texts.
This was a school project, and is not currently functioning as an active site. However, as a prototype it is functional and is helpful in considering potential ways to organize OER for teaching history on a high school or college level. >Applying History Prototype< |
